Elisha,

I didn't take this photo, but it came from http://www.clusterflock.org/2010/09/owl-in-a-hat.html. If it was mine I would say go ahead, but I didn't take it.

If only it was a Luminus issue, but it was actually a Dell issue this time. Their server setup utility broke the ability to clone the physical server to a VM by hiding the boot info in an unnamed fat32 partition. Todd and Roger finally figured it out and saved about 20 hours of work over the weekend.

"..we should vote for people with similar moralities to govern and not people to govern with similar moralities." Well said. People are individuals, and the government should be the minimum framework needed to protect our borders, stabilizing the economy through Keynesian policies, and protecting the rights of minorities.

You can't force ethics, morals, or religion through law with any degree of success. These are personal beliefs, and for many people not open to change. Defining marriage, abortion, alcohol sales, and illegal substance policies all infringe upon personal beliefs.

Like you said, the best you can hope for is to choose the politician with similar moral structure, and hope that he or she makes a decision similar to what you make. Unfortunately you can never know the true character of a politician based off their campaign...

Sounds like a terrible time. I was hoping that the major project that collapsed was the Portal, but oh well. You are now officially a liason huh? You were by de facto before, but now you should be able to put that in your job duties :)

While I can't agree with the overall message, last week's rightfromtheheart.org radio spot, <a href="http://rightfromtheheart.org/player.php?title=Legislating+Morality&file=/mnt/stor2-wc1-dfw1/401226/401373/www.rightfromtheheart.org/web/content/media/radio/20101025.mp3" rel="nofollow">Legislating Morality</a>, does have a point. Someone's morality is included in every law.

Also, the only part of the Constitution that deals with separation of church and state is the first clause of the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;..." I recently heard a compelling argument that this merely means the government cannot establish an official religion or preventing anyone from worshiping their own religion. This doesn't, however, mean that religious people cannot be a part of government and rely on their religious beliefs to guide them whilst governing. Yeah, that just came from the atheist.

Personally, I think the founding fathers did it right and we're currently getting it wrong. They were ambiguous in their reference to a higher power. In fact, the Constitution does not mention one and the Declaration mentions only a "Creator." Meanwhile, today, it seems that the religious people who talk politics are positive that only their god is the accepted one.
