The Law
The past couple weeks of work have been some of the hardest I have ever had at Clayton State. I won't get into last week too much, but this week has been the most stressful week I can remember at work. Today is the last day of FY 2009/2010 and we have been trying to wrap up contract negotiations with one of our vendors. I have been put in the awkward position of having the lead in the negotiations, but no say. I have never done one of these before and I have to say I am learning a lot about how enterprise software contracts work, as well as a better understanding of the university, BOR and state.
It is hard for me to wrap my head around what money is worth in these kind of situations. I am of the mindset that every dollar is needs to be squeezed as far as it'll go, therefor I think $60k-$70k is a ton of money. That would fund at least another full-time person. Then I get told that we are small fish in a sea with lots of multi-million dollar players. Kinda makes what I see as a huge task feel like fisher-price.
Anyway, just an update on what has consumed for a little over a week now. I am starting to have nightmares filled with legal jargon. I am about an hour away from when the contract will hopefully be signed. If it is that means I can get back to a major project at work tomorrow, and hopefully enjoy the first day with our new director on campus.
Legality
Lawyers suck all the fun out of life. Hopefully this will be my last day in contract negotiations.
And the winner is…
Well, yesterday I found out I didn't get my dream job. I am not sure what to do now, but I know that good things are gonna come from this. Just have to keep on going and working hard. Maybe it is time for something new.
HTML EMails
I have always had a backwards view of HTML based email. I say it is backwards because I have felt it was just for spam. Recently I have really started noticing some great benefits of using HTML in the email space. It provides a great way to brand yourself, as well as a a way to consistently show the information you need. A great example of this is how facebook and progressive use HTML emails for their notification systems.

Technology Overkill
Wow, after I started my blog back up I slowly started adding other social techs back into the fold as well. First I went back to Twitter and more recently I have jumped back on Facebook. I have to say that I don't know how folks do it. I feel so overwhelmed with it all. I don't want to lay my lack of posts on Facebook and Twitter, but they are really a time sink. I will continue to try and stay on top of everything but no promises.
Life has also gotten pretty busy for me. Next week is vacation and hopefully it will be just the break I need. No new news on the job front but I have to say it is consuming my mind at the moment. I would love to have some kind of answer before vacation, although I know that I am the only one on that timeline.
Once I get back from vacation I will be 100% into the biggest project I have been in charge of at the HUB. We will be using LANDesk to remove our current antivirus and install our new LANDesk AV. We have a very short overlap time and we have to test deploy and then mass deploy. Messing with AV is pretty scary because of how deep it gets into the OS. All I have to say is thank goodness it isn't norton.
Glennz.com

This came across my google reader feed this morning and I felt like I really needed to share. I don't typically wear T-shirts, but this company has some really awesome designs. There are even iPhone backgrounds. Check it out.
