The Wall The Misadventures of a PK

Happy Easter

Spring is here and life is growing anew.  I love this time of year as it marks the single most important event in the world.  Easter.  I know Christmas gets a lot more hype and commercialization in the Christian world, but Easter is so much more important.  Christ has risen!

One of my favorite things about Easter is the family getting together.  This past weekend was no exception.  Kim and I left after she got off work on Friday.  We got to my mom's house about 6:30, just in time for spaghetti.  We kinda relaxed and hung out Friday night, except for a short ride around town with the doors and roof off my Jeep to get some gas.

Saturday morning came way too early.  We had to get up and be on the road at 7am because my parents wanted to take a train ride.  We drove to Winnsboro SC, to visit the South Carolina Railroad Museum.  They run a short train run, about 10 miles total, and during the trip the Easter Bunny passes through all the cars to say hey to all the young folks.  It was the absolute worst costume I have ever seen.  The head didn't attach to the body so you could see the person inside.  I think the kids on board younger than 3 enjoyed it though.  We got to the station in time to get first class tickets in the dining car.  We really wanted to be there because it has much larger windows, AC, as well as a snack along the trip.  It was the first time Claire, Carleigh and Kate had riden on a full size train and they seemed to really enjoy it.  I also think it was Kim's first train ride.

We got back to Augusta about 2pm.  My cousin Ryan had a house warming that evening, but we had some time to take the boat out for the first time this year.  It was beautiful out on the river.  The boat however needs a lot of love.  It is absolutely filthy.  I need to go get our trailer and pull it out to really clean it well.  I am really looking forward to swimming and boating this summer.  I am also looking forward to grilling out this summer.  Leigh and her family had some friends coming through Augusta that evening and they decided to grill out at my mom's.  Kim and I had other plans for dinner, but before we left I grilled some steaks for Leigh and her guests.  That really made me want to get out grill some more.

Sunday was another day that came quickly.  We got up for Easter Sunrise services at the Amphitheater on the river.  Every easter the big downtown churches come together to hold an awesome service right on the river.  During the service the sun rises just across the river and it is so amazing.  This year was the first year a boat anchored just out from the amphitheater and I think next year we may do the same.  The sermon this year was from the pastor at Springfield Baptist Church.  Springfield is where Morehouse College started, as well as it is the oldest African-American Baptist Church in the US, founded in 1773.  It was an awesome service.  After church we went back to my mom's house to fix our traditional breakfast, Eggs Goldenrod.  It is one of my all time favorites.

After breakfast we took turns cooking, napping, and whatnot, before heading over to my Aunt Kim's house for the big family get together.  As always there was way too much food and I of course over ate.  It was great though because I got to see my cousin Stephen's new baby girl, McKinna Grace.  She is so cute.  After lunch we had an Easter egg hunt for all the kids.  They had a ball looking for eggs and when they finished, my uncle Wayne announced there was a golden egg for the adults.  What this means is there was an egg hidden really hard fo the adults that contained a good amount of money ($50-$100).  After about 30 minutes of searching my aunt Kim found the egg which had $50 in it.  It was a great Easter and best of all I got to spend it with Kim and my family.

Kim and I left Augusta about 7:30 to head home.  I don't think either of us wanted to but, we had to be back.  It was a great weekend and a great Easter.  I hope everyone else enjoyed it.
