The Ascender
An absolutely awesome video about thinking in a creative way and how to accomplish what you set your mind to. Also a pretty cool device was created. Full story here.
The Bacon Donut
When two unbelievably fatty food come together you know you in for a treat. I saw this thanks to James Sumners and had to share it. It is a bacon donut from NYC's Wildwood BBQ. I cannot tell you how insanely awesome this sounds. I know I will most likely never get a chance to go here and try it, but I have added it to my list of foods to try once, right above Paula Deen's Lady's Brunch Burger.
From the consumerist:
Yes, two of the essential food groups have been combined into a dessert at NYC's Wildwood BBQ, where last Friday Chef "Big Lou" Elrose added a new offering -- glazed cinnamon donuts bedazzled (bacon-dazzled?) with bits of candied bacon.
Wow, a crazy weekend
Not really gonna bore everyone with everything I did this weekend, but I started in Augusta with my dad in the hospital and finished it with an absolutely awesome and relaxing Sunday afternoon with Kim. Overall it was a good weekend. My dad should be home this afternoon and is doing ok. Looks like a long battle ahead but one I am confident we will come out ahead in.
In other news I found a new game for the iPhone that I am really having a blast with. It is called We Rule, and it is like a sim game or I am guessing farmville for you Facebookers. You have a small kingdom and you have to build farms, houses, businesses and more. What is really fun about it is that you can actually go to your friends kingdoms and buy stuff from their shops. One of the things I really like about it is the ability to turn on and off push notifications for certain actions. Like if I want to know when a building is complete, it will alert me.
Where is home?
Well, today I am telecommuting in Augusta. My dad had surgery last night and they are going to be running tests today, but it looks like he'll be in the hospital a least through the weeken. Not a lot of good news to report right now.
To add to it my mom's neighbor passed away this week and the funeral is this weekend. He was a really nice guy. Him and his brothers owned Fox Appliances in Augusta and Atlanta.
The problem with support
This morning when I got to work I was excited about a light day of work during what is usually a slow time of the year. As soon as I turned the corner to go into my office I knew that was not going to be the case. Some of the buildings on campus had no network connectivity and our phones were lighting up. This isn't too big of a deal except people were also trying to go around us for support and that just makes it harder for us to get the problem taken care of. I guess that is the norm. The biggest problem was that while this was going on our network access control (NAC) system started to freak out on several people's computers across campus.
Our NAC is something I am so looking forward to when it is fully online, but right now we are still in the phase of working out the bugs. I worry about the problems we are having with it because the potential of the NAC is so great, but keeping employees excited about what it can offer us is getting harder and harder. I know that if our staff doesn't see it as anything but problems then they will not be able to back it 100% and we have to. I know that tele-com is working as hard as they can to make sure there are no problems and hopefully things are going to smooth out soon.
The Last Castle
If you are not watching Castle, you should be. It is an amazing show!!! They are setting up one awesome season finale.
An introduction
Kim came by work today for lunch and for the first time I let my boss know about her. It was kind of a spur of the moment thing but I really wanted Kim to meet Debye. Debye's face was hilarious when I first introduced her. It went from a look of "Oh no, what'd we do to her computer" to "wait, she isn't here because of a problem" to "you have a girlfriend?!?" in about 1 second. I was very glad I got to introduce Kim to Debye today. When I got back from lunch, Debye stopped me and was was questioning me about Kim and why I hadn't said anything. I try to keep my personal life separate from work to a degree. Anyway, it went well and I am so very glad Debye seemed to like her.
The greatest show on earth
Talk about a great weekend. Friday afternoon Kim and I left for a wekend in Augusta with the family and it was a blast. It was our first multiday trip, which I have to admit was a little bit nerve wracking. Nothing at all to worry about though. It was an almost perfect weekend. We got into Augusta about 4pm Friday and got to spend the afternoon with my parents before my sister and her family got in closer to 9pm.
Saturday was the big day though. We came to town for the circus, and not just any circus, but the Greatest Show on Earth. I love that name. We got there a bit early and were able to walk down to the ring and meet several of the performers as well as the animals in the show. Claire, Carleigh and Kate all got to walk the tight rope and hold some exotic birds, while I got to play with my camera. The pre-show stuff was pretty fun and if you have younger cousins, nieces, nephews or whatever, it was a blast and I really recommend trying to go if you can.
